The job interview is the most important aspect to
overcome when looking for work.
The objective of the
interview is to separate yourself from the competition. It is
aimed at highlighting, skills, personality, personal strengths
and interests in the job.
On receiving an invitation to
be interviewed, be sure to get all the facts.
Details such as date, time, place, the number of persons
conducting the interview and the format the interview will
take, (which may include written tests) are important.
One of the primary steps of
the process
is to get information on the company and posts for which you
are being interviewed. This information will help you prepare
relevant questions for your interviewer, and to make informed
comments.
This information will also
help determine if you should invest your time, skills and
talent with this company.
Planning Interviewing
Tactics
Link your skills and
experience to the job you are applying for. Find material to
substantiate these traits, e.g., certificates and
commendations.
Write two sets of questions;
one with your queries for the interviewer and the other with
questions you may be asked.
On the close of the interview
thank the interviewer for his/her time and question the time
period and format of the remainder of the interviewing
process.
Additional tips for
Interviews:
* Let the interviewer lead
the interview.
* Be yourself
* Be truthful
* Never argue with the
interviewer
* Make good eye contact
* Avoid controversial
subjects
* Never talk negatively about
your previous employers and coworker.
* Do not exaggerate your
abilities or compare yourself with others.
* Do not speak too loudly or
softly. Use the interviewer as your model.
* Do not ask about the salary
or fringe benefits. (Let the interviewer bring it up.)

Practice, practice, practice; either with friends or by
yourself, all the answers to the questions you have designed.
The Interview:
Your appearance is essential;
make your dress decisions early. Take time to make your
selections.
Be early for your interview;
arrive at least 15 minutes early.
Be courteous to everyone you
meet at the interview. If you are rude to someone, no matter
how well you think your interview went, you may not get the
job.
First impressions are
important, on meeting your interviewer deliver a firm
handshake and introduce yourself with a smile.
Listening is also very
important in any interview, be certain that you clearly hear
and understand questions before answering.
You need to set yourself
apart from the competition. If the interviewer asks about your
skill be sure to include practical examples, "I am a good
candidate because my five (5) years experience includes typing
60 wpm, operating a switchboard etc."
Be aware of the length of
your questions and answers; keep your answers and queries as
concise as possible. |
